Although I have been a fan of Anorah only for a few months I was pretty much hooked from day one. When I saw the video of her doing a song called Cindy I posted it on my main page. Well her CD is available as of today. In the true DIY tradition you can buy it and download it at Indiependence Music. That is the good news - bad news is you need PayPal. But having said that - the music is awesome. Sort of a throwback to the guitar rock of the 80's. Anorah can sing like a sweet angel and then sneak in a true rock and roll growl. A listen to the kick off track, Bitch, is proof of that. (This is not a cover of the Meredith Brooks song of the same name)
My favorite (although, really, the whole thing is my favorite) is Cindy, a heartbreaking song about AIDS. In the tradition of Andy Prieboy's Tommorrow Wendy Anorah's song tells the story of 'Cindy' who "didn't even get the chance to live". You want to shed a tear as Anorah achingly sings "and finally you get to breath so free" and start to hate ourselves when the finger points at everyone: "Oh care, we don't care. If we close our eyes hard enough she disappears." It is so great when someone comes along that has passion about things and isn't afraid to put their heart out for everyone to see.
The great thing about Indiependence Music is that you can preview the tracks and buy only the ones you really like - but like I said - you will most likely love everything. Beat The Enemy would have been right at home alongside 80's hair metal bands like Vixen or Ratt...only 100 times better. I can close my eyes and see lighters being held high into the air as Anorah belts out Guess I've Been Better on the stage of some huge arena..."You may call me a selfless, heartless thief...but everything that I have stolen is from me. Now I'm giving it back to myself." Yeah, ok I am not a female but you know - the phrase "You go girl!" comes to mind.
The full album has 11 tracks and I have to also say that the production of Samuel Engh is pretty awesome as well. I should also point out that Anorah is Swedish so don't expect her to be playing down the street anytime soon if you are in America. Hopefully in 2008 maybe? Until then her album will have to do. Anna finally got to release her album and the waiting has been long but totally worth it. The album is filled with great pop/rock. Discover her before everyone else!! Alexander J
Amazing!! renée a
Another reason to like Sweden! Great music, well written and recorded; a bit like "Heart" but with more EDGE. Daniel W
